Welcoming good bacteria into your stomach My mom has always been having a weak stomach and she constantly needs medication to help her to digest. Occasionally she loves drinking yogurt or cultured milk and that unconsciously helped her a lot more during meals. Recently in August 2006 after my mom had a bad attack of Steven Johnson Syndrome, her stomach became weaker and it was so weak up to the point that whatever she eats she will vomit. When we asked the doctors during outpatient treatment they said that "windy stomach" occurred because the stomach was idle for almost 3 weeks without proper food in her and this has caused it worse. She kept getting gastric attacks and to see her rolling all over on the bed to ease her gastric pain was a suffering view. Only God knows how I suddenly had the thought of "cultured milk". I guess because my mom kept telling me she couldn't eat and kept feeling full. We tried medication and non-solid food but it doesn't quite work, so when I passed the yogurt section in the supermarket I grabbed a pack of cultured milk for her. There were a lot of types of cultured milk at the shelf but I guess advertising does made a big difference. I took this pack called "Yakult" because it has less ml that in mind I told myself if she couldn't take huge amounts of it, small packed bottles of cultured milk is good for a try. The day I gave that pack of cultured milk was the day I return to the state I was working. And after hours of travelling and arriving home my mom called me and told me she could drink that bottle of cultured milk and slowly, she could feel that her stomach wasn't that bloated. That was a great cheer for her. I told her to take a bottle a day if she can and she followed the recommended instructions. After a few days of this cultured-milk a day and with the help of other nourished herbs (ginseng and birds nest) my mom slowly regain her strength and she actually had appetite to eat, and alas, she could take 2 tablespoon of rice. So, a little miracle from the cultured milk makes wonders for patients who have very week digestive systems. This is not just in a kid's menu but it is actually good for everyone, just like the advertisement said. Two days ago when I went to the supermarket around my area I came across this cultured milk brand again, and the sales personal kept explaining to me how this good bacteria, Lactobacillus casei, in the cultured milk helps to improve digestive systems, and most importantly, there are different types of good bacteria and some could last longer in the stomach and some can't.
