The Contrast of Lemon

When some doctors says to gout / arthritist / gastric patients, "Try some lemon"... I am sure that many family members would have shocked, even the patients themselves, with "No! No!" in their minds no matter it was an advice from their doctors.

On the contrary... you would be surprised as much as I am when I did further research.

Lemon (Lebu/nimbu)
Citrus Acid family like Orages, etc.

The humble lemon contains most of the vitamins and minerals. It has magical and wonderful healing powers. It is a citrus fruit. (Example of other citrus fruits are orange, mandarine, tangerine, narangi, musumbi (lime), grape-fruit, grape, and shaddock.)

All citrus fruits are very rich sources of vitamins A, B and C. They also contain appreciable amounts of iron and calcium.

Lemons as medicine
Although there are many scientific reports about how Lemon's content can actually help the body to regain energy through the balancing of oxygen and calcium content in the Liver, it would have been really blur a lot of readers, including me. But we should cut the chase and concentrate on more about what Lemon in general (from the Internet) state it can help in the daily needs.

Lemon juice is stated to improve menorrhagia, nose-bleeding, hepatitis, gastric ulcer if taken several times daily. Of all foods which have also been used as medicines, lemons are the most commonly known. The custom of using a slice of lemon when eating a fish dinner was originally intended for remedial purposes rather than for flavouring. It was believed that if a fish bone were to be accidentally swallowed during the meal, the juice of lemon could dissolve it. Lemons have been used as a household romedy for colds, rheumatism, sore throat, gastric and liver troubles, headache, heartburn, biliousness etc. Lemon juice mixed with glycerine is used for chapped lips or chilblains. For constipation, the juice of a lemon as taken in a glass of hot water one-half hour before breakfast. Local application of lemon juice is used to allay irritation caused by bites of gnats and similar insects.

Lemon remedy: Common cold
Drink a large glass of hot water with the juice of a lemon added, while at the same time have the feet in a deep bucket or other vessel of water with mustard added to it. The water should be deep enough to where it comes nearly up to the knees. Keep adding hot water to the patient's tolerance and until the patient begins to perspire freely (about 20-30 minutes). Be sure there is no draft on the person while this is done. The patient should be near a bed so he can get in it easily and avoid any danger of getting chilled. If convenient, a full hot bathtub would be good in place of the foot-bath. The lemon water should be taken every hour until the patient feels that all the symptoms of the cold are gone.

But to take it very weak at first (diluted sufficiently in water), it will cease to burn. The sufferer afflicted with ulcerated stomach has to use great perseverance to affect a cure, and it can be cured if care and patience is used. The gastric juice in the stomach is four times as strong as lemon juice."
